Elegant Clinical- Business/Non-Profit Photographer Harford, CT

Recently had the opportunity to photograph some wonderful individuals at Elegant Clinical, a vocational center for adults with special abilities. This was my second time shooting at Elegant (this time at their brand new location!) and each time I feel so blessed to have the chance to work with their staff and their clients. They are all so welcoming to me and it is just fantastic to capture the joy and the positive work being done at this facility. Here are a few of my favorite photos from our recent shoot…

Author Head Shots- Portrait Photographer Hartford, CT

About a week ago, I met up with a new client to help her get some head shots for her new book which is currently in the process of being published! She needed a head shot for her bio page and website, so we met up down in Blue Back Square for our session. We got some great casual, natural light shots that I think will be perfect for her book. Here are a few of my favorites from our session:

An Architect and Casual Business Portraits- Corporate Headshots- West Hartford, CT

Last week, I met up with Michael Kilkelly who is the owner and head architect at Space Command architecture in Middletown, CT. Michael contacted me to get a series of casual, creative headshots to use on his new business website. I was really excited to do this shoot with him for a couple of reasons:

#1) my business is heavily concentrated on women, babies, children, families, etc. And though there are frequently men present at my sessions, it is rare that they get much camera time. So having an hour to just shoot with a man is a great opportunity for me to shoot with a more masculine perspective, which I love doing.

#2) I have become kind of obsessed with the belief that everyone, in every profession, should have a high quality headshot taken of themselves. This is particularly critical for anyone who owns a business of their own. When you put in all of the work it takes to create a website, it is just crazy to not have a professional, high quality photo of yourself on there.

I think there is a misconception that headshots have to look like a mugshot, up against a boring backdrop while sporting a stuffy business suit. The truth is that this is becoming less and less common in the workplace. It is much more common now to see a more relaxed, artistic photo that is better able to convey a person’s individual style and personality. When Michael contacted me about photos, he knew that he wanted photos that looked professional, but that showed his creative, unique style as well. Prior to our session, we shared inspiration photos and wardrobe ideas via Pinterest and then selected locations that would help us achieve the look we were hoping to capture. As always, I find that a critical part of the relationship between photographer and client is this type of collaboration and advance planning. It is what makes it possible to achieve a vision like we did with this session.

The samples I am sharing today show you the type of variety that I strive for with a business portrait session. This session proves that corporate headshots don’t have to be stuffy and boring. Business portraits can be fun, creative, and unique while still being professional. If you don’t have shots like this for your website, blog, Linkedin profile, company bio, etc, you need to call me right away and book an appointment. Just say no to blurry photos taken by your friends or spouse. Instead, say yes to photos like these:-)……

Out and About Mom Photo Session- Website/Blog Photography West Hartford, CT

A couple of weeks ago, I met up with the fabulous bloggers behind Out and About Mom and their families for a fun photo session to update their photos and polish their look for their blog site. Out and About Mom is a blog that tracks all of the day trips and activities that two Connecticut moms do with their young children. These ladies have visited an astounding number of places and have noted not only what the experience was like, but also great little details like whether or not you can take in strollers and other helpful facts. When I first saw their blog, I thought it was an absolutely genius idea and only wish that I had such an awesome resource to refer to when my daughter was so little. Shawna and Mandy are from the Glastonbury/West Hartford area, but have not limited themselves to just these two towns. They are an adventurous duo who have traveled to numerous towns throughout the state in their mission to create great memories with their little ones. Luckily for all of us, they generously share all their experience and wisdom regularly through their blog.

When we met up in Farmington for our session, we quickly plotted out our hour of shooting time and got to work with individual portraits, group shots, family photos, and even some maternity shots as well! It was like we did 4 sessions in one that day! But it was tons of fun and I am so excited about the results of this session. Thanks again to Shawna and Mandy for trusting my  vision for their photos and being willing to track down color coordinating outfits for so many family members and themselves as well. No small task, I promise you!

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the session:

The next two shots show a really cute and creative idea that the OAAM bloggers came up with. They posed in a dozen different ways with blank white poster board and they plan to use these on their blog as a fun way to post little ideas, announcements, etc. With a little Photoshop text tool, you can write whatever you want on the posters. Here is a little sample that I came up with to demonstrate how the photos will work on their blog, but with a little self promotion for Kathryn Deane Photography mixed in for fun 🙂

The following photo may be a Kathryn Deane Photography first because I have actually come out from behind my camera to pose for a shot with Shawna and Mandy. I am so excited to be building this great partnership with these two fantastic women and I look forward to working with them again in the near future:-)

Mentoring and Models in NYC- Child, Family, and Newborn Photographer West Hartford, CT

A week ago, I had the opportunity to travel into the city for a one on one mentoring session with the amazingly talented Benita Cloward of BRC Photography in Oklahoma. Benita and I worked on and discussed everything from shooting and editing to business and marketing. I don’t think there was a single thing we missed! It was not only a ton of fun, but it was also exactly the type of experience I was looking for to take my photography to the next level. What I loved the most about working with Benita is that she is a no frills photographer. She is not spending a lot of time altering her images in Photoshop, carrying around tons of lighting or devices to manipulate the shot, or counting on an entourage of assistants to get the photo she wants. She is so skilled that she knows exactly what to do with just her camera and a lens to get what she is looking for. That is precisely the type of photographer you want when you hire someone to shoot your wedding, family, baby, or child. And I am so thrilled to have been given the opportunity to “look behind the curtains” and see exactly how a photographer with that level of talent makes it all happen. Here are a few samples of my shots of our beautiful model, Brittany, who allowed us to march her through the streets of New York with all kinds of crazy outfits on. Thank you again to both Benita and Brittany for giving me such a fantastic learning experience in NYC….

Website Launch!! – Kathryn Deane Photography

Well, it has been a long time coming, but my website is FINALLY ready to go! I am so excited to have the basic bones of the site up and running. There are still a few things I need to add and adjust in the next few weeks, but I wanted to put a link up for anyone who wants to check out the site and see the beautiful kids and families that I have had the pleasure of photographing over the past 10 months. I hope you enjoy your time at www.kathryndeane.com !

A Special Thanks to All My Models! – Portrait Photographer West Hartford, CT

I want to thank all of the families I’ve worked with in the past several months for allowing me into their homes to photograph their beautiful children. All of these families have agreed to let me use their photos on my website and for marketing purposes. I just want to let them all know once again how much I appreciate their participation in my special photo model offer. Due to all of the terribly rainy weather this summer, we have needed to postpone MANY of our scheduled sessions, but it looks like I will be completely caught up with everyone by the end of November. I am looking forward to putting together all of my finished work to create my official website for Kathryn Deane Photography.

When I first set out to do this, I was fully expecting to have my website up and running by September. However, I realized that I must readjust my expectations because someone forgot to tell the weather that I had a timeline and it wasn’t going to work out with two months of constant rain! So the official website will be available later than expected, but I promise that it will be worth the wait!  The upside to the delay is that  I now have the chance to add in some fantastic fall shots, which I am really excited about.

For those of you who are interested in having me take photos for the upcoming holidays, I will be offering a limited number of sessions in October, November, & December.  It may seem early to think about holiday photos, but it will be here before you know it!  A beautiful, custom portrait of your children or your entire family will serve as a wonderful gift to give t0 yourself or to your relatives. More importantly, it will be the perfect way to create a gorgeous holiday photo card to send out this year. Please contact me by email or phone with any inquiries regarding holiday or regular session rates and availability.  I have several weekday openings, but limited openings for weekends. All October weekends are booked, so I am currently booking for November and December. Contact me at kathryndeanephotography@yahoo.com or 860-508-8300 to reserve your time.
