A couple of weeks ago, I shot a maternity session with a family who is expecting their third child soon. Though it was a risky choice due to the inevitable crowds of rose garden visitors, we decided to shoot at Elizabeth Park during Rose Weekend. It was definitely really crowded, but totally worth it because we got to shoot in such a beautiful setting. Of course, I had to hang around for a little extra shooting time after our session for a few rose photos as well. Here are a few of my favorites from the maternity session and my rose session afterwards:-)
I recently shot a great maternity session in Blue Back Square in West Hartford Center. I enjoy shooting photos outside of the standard park type settings. It can make for really interesting backdrops that you just can’t get at a park. And the best part about Blue Back is that there is this little grassy area as well, which balances nicely with all the “street” shots. Here are a few of my favorite photos from our session:
One of my recent sessions was with a return client of mine who I first worked with about a year ago. This year, they are now expecting their second baby! So I was thrilled to have a maternity session with them to document this exciting time for their family. Even better than that, we will also have a newborn session in a few months when the new baby arrives. Here are a few of my favorites from our maternity session:
I had a great family/maternity session a couple of weeks ago and we must have got it done just in time because the new baby has already arrived!! We just put our newborn session on the calendar for later this weekend, so I am really excited to meet the new baby and get some great shots of them as a brand new family of four:-) Since my newborn sessions focus almost entirely on the new baby and include just a a handful of family shots, it is always nice to have a maternity/family session in order to give that extra camera time to the older sibling(s) before the baby arrives. It is also so special to be able to capture those last few days of your family before it changes forever with the addition of a whole new person. Here are a few of my favorites from this family’s session while they were still a family of three:-)
This past weekend, I had a really fun maternity/family session with Shawna from Out and About Mom. Some of you may remember my first session with the entire Out and About Mom team and their families this past summer. We were taking some photos to get their blog looking extra fabulous, which we were thrilled to accomplish despite the 90 degree heat and three restless toddlers that day:-) So when Shawna contacted me about a family/maternity session for the spring, I was really excited to have the opportunity to focus on just her family and help them to document this special time in their lives. We were able to get some really fun, beautiful shots, which I can’t wait to share with you all. For any of my mom readers out there who are not familiar with Out and About Mom, it is THE top resource for learning about all the best places to go and things to do with preschool age kids in CT. Shawna and blog partner, Mandy, have created this amazing blog that is filled with great information for parents of young kids, so definitely take a few minutes to visit their site and also “like” them on Facebook to get regular updates.
Here are a few of my favorites from our session:
This photo was the result of a hilarious moment where Shawna and I were asking her son where the baby was because we were trying to get him to touch her belly. Instead he proudly pointed to himself and announced that the baby was him! It was so adorable and made us all laugh hysterically. Such an awesome moment!! And so thrilled to have captured it for them to remember forever:-)
Just a few months back, I introduced the beautiful Baby A on my blog with her gorgeous newborn photo session. Today, she is back and as sweet and adorable as ever. This was her 4 month session and as always, I was blown away by how much she has grown and changed since September. This is one of the reasons I encourage all of my clients to consider doing a first year package which is when you schedule a session at 4-10 days old (newborn), 3-4 months, 6-7 months, and 12-13 months. This covers the first four major milestones of development in that fast paced, amazing first year. Many parents plan ahead for that newborn session and then forget all about photos again until the baby’s first birthday. This is such a huge mistake because there is so much missed in between during that first year. After their first birthday, then a yearly shoot is always plenty. But that first year really requires a little more documentation than all the others. So I am always so thrilled when I meet parents who are committed to capturing each of those milestones in the first year. Three- four month olds are particularly fun to shoot because they are starting to smile, laugh, and hold their heads up.
In addition to our baby session, I also did a little mini maternity session for what will be Baby A’s little cousin who will be born this coming April. We snuck outside for a few quick shots in the snow, so I am including a few of my favorites from those shots as well. Here are the best of the best from the session:
My weeklong editing whirlwind is starting to slow down and I now only have one more session to complete from last weekend…Woo hoo!!! But before the weekend begins, I wanted to post a preview on my blog so that the M family can check out the results of their maternity session. The M family and I go way back now. We met three years ago when I was just starting up Kathryn Deane Photography. When I first started photographing their family, they had three young boys and were expecting their fourth baby. Now, three years later, they have a beautiful little girl and are about to give birth to their fifth little blessing in June! I am so happy that I have been able to photograph their family as it grows and changes….and I cannot wait to meet their newest little one in a few weeks!
Thank you again to the M family for always trusting in my vision and happily cooperating with all of my “ideas” 🙂 I so wish we could have gotten that beautiful sunset that I was praying for, but I know that you are going to love these shots, even with the hazy clouds. Mama M, you look absolutely stunning in all of these photos….pregnancy definitely suits you! Here are my top picks for the day:
