A week ago, I had the opportunity to travel into the city for a one on one mentoring session with the amazingly talented Benita Cloward of BRC Photography in Oklahoma. Benita and I worked on and discussed everything from shooting and editing to business and marketing. I don’t think there was a single thing we missed! It was not only a ton of fun, but it was also exactly the type of experience I was looking for to take my photography to the next level. What I loved the most about working with Benita is that she is a no frills photographer. She is not spending a lot of time altering her images in Photoshop, carrying around tons of lighting or devices to manipulate the shot, or counting on an entourage of assistants to get the photo she wants. She is so skilled that she knows exactly what to do with just her camera and a lens to get what she is looking for. That is precisely the type of photographer you want when you hire someone to shoot your wedding, family, baby, or child. And I am so thrilled to have been given the opportunity to “look behind the curtains” and see exactly how a photographer with that level of talent makes it all happen. Here are a few samples of my shots of our beautiful model, Brittany, who allowed us to march her through the streets of New York with all kinds of crazy outfits on. Thank you again to both Benita and Brittany for giving me such a fantastic learning experience in NYC….
Hooray!!! I am finally done with house building tasks and have gotten all settled in. I am thrilled to finally be able to dust off my camera and get out for a session this past weekend. My Nikon and I were seriously in need of some quality time together after my 2 month, construction-related time off. So I joined a favorite repeat client for a three generation photo session. There were two one year olds and a three year old, which is a bit ambitious for a photographer who has been on an extended leave from her camera. Oh my goodness!!! It was madness trying to get all three children to look at me at the same time for the large group shots, but I am thrilled to report that I pulled it off! We took lots of breaks and I got to snap some fun candids while the kids were just relaxing and having fun. Here are a few of my favorites from the session:
Ahhhh, my favorite thing EVER! Kids cracking up over the simplest things. So cute!
I also absolutely love catching the look in a granparent’s eye when looking at his/her grandchild….
The little sister trying to sit just like her big sister. So sweet!
A daddy/daughter snuggle too?? This may be the best session ever!
While we were away on vacation, I had the opportunity to spend some time shooting some fantastic scenery and I wanted to share some of my favorite shots. The first is from a series of sand sculptures that are done every year on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD. The second shot is the sun filtering through the clouds on Bethany Beach . The final shot is of the wild horses on the beach at Assateague Island. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
It is not too often that I get to just focus on shooting an adult without a child being involved, so it is very exciting when the opportunity presents itself. My sister wanted some photos of herself for her blog and for work. She was looking for something informal and fun that showed her personality, not just a serious posed headshot. There were so many good shots that it was very hard to pick which one was best. Clearly, she must have used up all of the photogenic genes that our parents had to hand out which is why I am now going to refer to her as “The Photogenic One.” Here are a couple of my favorites….
