I had a really fun “almost newborn” shoot recently with a beautiful baby girl who was a little smiling machine:-) I call it “almost newborn” because she was actually a bit more than a month old, so the shoot has a bit of a different look to it. There are far more awake shots than there are sleeping shots. And although you won’t see any of those curled up, snoozing baby photos, there are plenty of smiling baby shots to make up for it. Here are a few of my favorites from our session:
I recently shot a newborn session at my studio and the family requested to keep the photos very simple and clean…no hats, headbands, props, etc. It is nice to shoot this way from time to time because it allows you to focus more on the baby with less time spent trying to change outfits, rearrange the baby, etc.
Here are some of my favorite shots from our simplicity session:
You saw this adorable couple a couple of weeks back with their maternity session in Blue Back. Well, they are back now with their beautiful baby girl who has the cutest dimple that I think I have ever seen!
Since I just got back from my vacation in Montreal(which was unbelievably fun, and I highly recommend everyone go visit, if possible), I am frantically trying to get caught up on work and my blog as well, so I have to be very brief today. Just wanted to post up a quick sneak peak from the session before I dive back into my editing, email, phone calls, etc.
Here are a few of my favorites from our session:
I love the next photo because it reminds me so much of when my daughter was a newborn and my husband and I would get so excited by each and every adorable little expression and sound that she’d make. I swear we could just be completely content to stare at her for hours and watch her do virtually nothing:-) This photo captured one of those sweet moments with this new family and I am so excited that I could freeze that moment in time for them. It passes by WAY too quickly!!
You may remember this beautiful couple from their Blue Back Square maternity photo session that I posted a couple of weeks ago. They have since given birth to their adorable little girl and brought her over to my studio for a session yesterday. She was a very easy going baby and snoozed through most of the photos, which made my job very easy! The three of them make such a gorgeous family and I absolutely LOVE how their family shots came out. They all wore white and it looked gorgeous in the studio light. Usually if a client books an outdoor session, I always recommend they avoid white because it tends to wash out in the photos. However, when we are shooting a newborn session, the focus is really supposed to be almost entirely on the baby. So wearing white in a newborn studio session is actually perfect. Even if it washes out a bit, it actually looks even better that way because it is so clean and simple….just the way newborn sessions are supposed to be:-)
Here are a few of my favorite shots from the session:
This session is such a perfect example of how to best plan for a session with a young toddler. This mama was perfectly prepared in every way. She had tiny snacks that don’t show in the child’s mouth when chewing(Cheerios, Gerber Puffs, etc)….she had her daughter’s favorite board book…she brought a cherished stuffed animal…it was PERFECTLY planned!! And I can tell you that we needed each and every one of those items. When crankiness set in, there was a fantastic line up of distractions that we could use that would not ruin the photos. If a client brings along a brightly colored toy that they do not want in the photos, I can guarantee that it will cause problems when they show it to the child, but then don’t let them hold onto it. But when you plan to bring along something that has significance to the child at this moment in time…a beloved book, toy, etc…then having it in the photos is not only okay, but it makes the photos even better. I loved how I got to capture the moment where little C became completely immersed in “reading” her board book. My daughter loved books at that age too and one of my all time favorite photos of her was taken when she was laying on the floor looking intensely at her favorite book. So I love that I was able to catch that in this session.
My very favorite photos from this session though were when her mom brought out her stuffed doggie. Her reaction to seeing this dog was absolutely priceless! So if you are the parent of a baby/toddler and want to be best prepared for your session, remember to come prepared with items like these. They may not only save the day, but may also lead to a photo that you will cherish forever. Here are a few favorites from our session:
You may remember this family from last month when they had their maternity/family session posted on my blog. You can check out that post here. They were back a couple of weeks ago for their newborn shoot with the brand new baby….here are a few of my favorite shots from our session:
If I didn’t know any better, I would think that it was fall and not spring…..and I am not talking just about weather. This is crazy weather though….one day my heat is on, the next my air conditioning. In one week’s time, I wore shorts and a tank top to one of my daughter’s softball games and a winter parka with hat, gloves, and a scarf….seriously, that happened! What I am referring to though with the feeling like it is fall and not spring is in reference to my calendar, which right now is FILLED with portrait sessions….as many as I would typically have right prior to the holiday card season! I guess everyone was feeling a little cooped up this winter and is anxious to get out in the sun and with the flowers for some family photos. I completely understand the feeling. The best part about it is that I get to have the excitement of the busy season twice this year:-) Nothing better than that!
So even though I am pressed for time, I promise to really try my best to include as many blog previews as I can manage while I go through the editing process for each shoot. My session highlight for today is a beautiful three month old baby girl whom I shot a newborn session for back in February. She was at my studio last weekend for her 3 month portraits, which ended up being absolutely precious. She is a ridiculously gorgeous baby. The kind that could model for baby gear and make you want to buy everything in the catalogue. That kind of gorgeous. Here are a few of my favorites from our shoot:
